Aaliyah Dana Haughton and Aarti Mann

Aaliyah Haughton made headlines in 1994 when she released her first album Age isn't just the number. The album was Gold at the age of 15 years old. R. Kelly heavily influenced this collaboration, and helped to bring the artist up to the top of the charts. In 1996, she debuted her second album One In A Million with Jermaine dupri and Timbaland. The album contained the top-selling track If Your Girl Only knew. Aaliyah gained international fame for her R&B vocals on this album. She was also as a character in Romeo Must Die, a action/romance film starring Jet-Li. Joel Silver spotted her in the awards ceremony. In 2002 she was in the vampire film Queen of the Damned based on the Anne Rice book. She also starred in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. In 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2003 she was nominated for four Grammy Awards. The actress is the first Indian American to be who was born in Connecticut. Mann is the abbreviation used for her first name in marriage, Mankad. Aarti Magnumdar is her formal name, but she is also known as Aarti Magumdar. Though her first career was dominated by minor movie and TV roles, she gained more notoriety in the late 2000s. She has also appeared in Leverage, Suits, Grey's Anatomy and Grey's Anatomy. She's appeared in many commercials, including Volvo's global car producer. She has a daughter, who lives in Los Angeles and is pursuing acting.
